Subject: New river forecast services on the North Branch Chicago
River in northeast Illinois.
Effective February 7, 2019, river forecast and flood warning services will be added for a location along the North Branch Chicago River in northeast Illinois. The following U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) river gauge location will become an official NWS river forecast location:
North Branch Chicago River at Chicago Pulaski Road (NWS location identifier NBPI2)
River forecasts will be issued when this location has reached, or is expected to reach, the action stage of 16.5 feet. Flood stage for this location has been set at 18.0 feet. Moderate flood stage has been set at 20.0 feet and major flood stage has been set at 21.0 feet.
Forecast and warning information will be available from the NOAA/NWS Chicago web page at weather.gov/chicago as well as the NOAA/NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) web page at water.weather.gov. Flood warning information will also be broadcast on NOAA Weather Radio.
