…Nearly Two Weeks of Daily Snow in Chicago…

The robust winter pattern entrenched over the area this week is not only characterized by the bitter cold but also the frequency of snow in advance of and during it. In fact, 13 consecutive days from January 17 through today, the 29th, have had at least a trace of snow at Chicago (O'Hare). During that time through 6 am today, 14.7 inches of snow have fell at Chicago.

There have been five other times in the Chicago period of record since 1884 where at least some snow occurred on 13 consecutive days. The last time was during the harsh 1978-1979 winter. From November 26-December 8, 1978 there were 13 straight days with at least a trace of snow. That stretch had 23.5 inches of snow.

The other stretches were February 19-March 3, 1947 (13 days), January 20-February 1, 1951 (13 days), February 9-26, 1960 (18 days), and December 18 1961-January 2, 1962 (16 days).

There is the possibility that Chicago has a little light snow after midnight on Wednesday morning, and then again Thursday night to continue this impressive daily snowfall stretch. </pre>
