This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Central Illinois…Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.

.DAY ONE…Tonight.

Weather hazards expected…

Significant Snow Risk.

DISCUSSION…

A band of light snow is moving across northern Illinois late  this afternoon.  This band will have the potential to produce  some light accumulation and reduced visibility.
The main area of accumulating snow will begin to move into western  Illinois this evening then spread east into northwest Indiana  late this evening and overnight.  Snow will be moderate to heavy  at times, resulting in snow covered roads and significantly  reduced visibilities. In addition, strengthening winds overnight  will result in blowing and drifting of snow.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Saturday through Thursday.

Saturday…

Limited Excessive Cold Risk.  Significant Snow Risk.  Elevated Lakeshore Flood Risk

Sunday…

Limited Excessive Cold Risk.  Elevated Snow Risk.  Elevated Lakeshore Flood Risk

Monday…

Limited Excessive Cold Risk.

DISCUSSION:

Snow will continue across much of northern Illinois and northwest  Indiana through Saturday afternoon and then begin to taper off from  the west through the late afternoon and early evening. Lake effect  snow is expected to set up Saturday afternoon and continue into  Sunday, producing additional snow accumulations near Lake Michigan  in far northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana. Gusty winds will  continue to result in blowing and drifting of the snow area wide on  Saturday.
Strong, gusty northeast to north winds will generate high waves along  the shore of Lake Michigan, causing minor flooding along the

Illinois

and Lake County Indiana shoreline, including along the Chicago

lakefront
