This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Central Illinois…Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.

.DAY ONE…Tonight.

Weather hazards expected…

Limited Thunderstorm Risk.  Elevated Ice accumulation Risk northwest half.

DISCUSSION…

Freezing rain is expected across portions of northern Illinois northwest of a line from Lake Forest to Elgin to Peru. Total ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch are expected, with locally up to one quarter of an inch. Temperatures will slowly rise above freezing across far northern Illinois by early Thursday morning. Isolated embedded thunderstorms are possible across the area tonight.

River flooding will continue along portions of area rivers, along with the potential for ice jam flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Thursday through Tuesday.

Thursday…

Limited Thunderstorm Risk.  Limited Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.  Elevated Ice Accumulation Risk northwest half in the morning.

Thursday night…

Limited Excessive Cold Risk.  Limited Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.

Friday…

Elevated Excessive Cold Risk.

Saturday morning…

Limited Excessive Cold Risk.

Sunday…

Limited Snow Risk.

DISCUSSION:

The risk for additional minor ice accumulations and travel impacts will likely linger into the Thursday morning commute for parts of far northern Illinois. Isolated embedded thunderstorms will remain possible across the area Thursday morning and early afternoon.

Much colder weather will then return Thursday night through Saturday morning, with wind chills as low as 10 to 20 below zero in portions of northern Illinois. There is a threat for light snow accumulations on Sunday.

River flooding will continue along portions of area rivers, along with the potential for ice jam flooding.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT…

Spotter activation will not be necessary through tonight.

GENERAL STORM MOTION OF THE DAY:

Moving toward the east-northeast at 35 mph tonight.  Moving toward the north-northeast at 45 mph Thursday.
