DISCUSSION:
There is increasing potential for a storm system to impact the
region late Friday through Saturday night and possible through
Sunday morning. At this time, notable ice accumulation
is a possibility across portions of north central and far
northeastern Illinois late Friday night and Saturday morning.
Accumulating snow is also possible for the area Saturday
night. However, there is still a good deal of uncertainty with
the track and strength of the storm system, which will ultimately
influence snow and ice accumulations and what areas are affected.
Strong southerly wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph, with sporadic gusts
to 45 mph, are expected on Thursday. Winds are then forecast to
become northerly which will build waves, bringing a risk for
lakeshore flooding late Friday night through Saturday night.
Finally, waves of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall may
result in a risk for flooding for locales roughly south and east
of I-55.
