THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.
.DAY ONE...Today and tonight...
WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
Limited Excessive Cold Risk.
Significant Snow Risk.
DISCUSSION:
A band of snow will impact holiday travel through this afternoon.
Snowfall amounts are expected to range from 1 to 2 inches across far northern
Illinois to 3 to 6 inches along and south of Interstate 80.
Lake effect snow is expected across northwest Indiana...where
snow amounts of 4 to 7 inches are possible near Lake Michigan.
A period of moderate to heavy snow is possible...when snowfall
rates between one half and one inch per hour will be possible
during the late morning and early afternoon...especially for
areas along and south of Interstate 80. The snow is expected
to be over by sunset late this afternoon...except in far
northwest Indiana where lake effect snow may linger into Sunday
evening. Much colder air will arrive tonight.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.
Monday to Wednesday...
Significant Excessive Cold Risk.
Thursday...
Limited Excessive Cold Risk.
Friday...
Elevated Excessive Cold Risk.
Saturday...
Limited Excessive Cold Risk.
DISCUSSION:
Very cold temperatures with dangerous wind chill values are expected
at times this week behind the incoming storm system. Stay tuned to the latest,
but wind chills may approach minus 20 in the Tuesday to Wednesday time
frame, with some lows below zero and highs in the single digits to low teens.
