Subject: Change to flood impact categories on the Des Plaines River 
at Lemont, Illinois
Effective September 5, 2019, flood impact categories for the Des 
Plaines River at Lemont, Illinois, (NWS identifier LEMI2) will 
change. Flood impact categories are set for this gauge based upon 
the river reach extending from approximately Hodgkins downstream to 
Lockport Lock & Dam. These changes were coordinated with 
representatives from the Cook County Department of Homeland Security 
and Emergency Management, the Will County Emergency Management 
Agency, the village of Lemont, and the village of Romeoville.
Moderate flood stage will change from 11.0 feet to 13.0 feet. Major 
flood stage will change from 12.0 feet to 15.0 feet.
No changes are being made to the action stage of 9.5 feet or the 
minor flood stage of 10.0 feet. River forecasts will continue to be 
issued when this location has reached, or is expected to reach, 
action stage.

NOAA/NWS Chicago web page at weather.gov/chicago as well as the
NOAA/NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) web page
at water.weather.gov.
