...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 5/27/2019 TORNADO EVENT...

.UPDATE...Two additional EF-0 tornadoes have been added
based on damage data received and analyzed in context to
radar imagery. These were added for northern Will County
and far southern Cook County in Illinois. Additional damage
in Kendall, northern Will, and southern Cook Counties was
determined to be from straight-line winds. The damage in
Benton County, Indiana was also likely from straight-line
winds.

.OVERVIEW...The NWS Chicago office, with the help of
Emergency Management, law enforcement, trained storm
spotters, and academic partners has determined five EF-0
tornadoes occurred on Monday (Memorial Day) along with
some areas of straight-line wind damage. Thank you to
those partners for their assistance.

A tornado briefly touched down near the intersection of
Walker Road and Ashley Road. Video and photo show that the
tornado kicked up dust in an open field with no damage
reported.

A tornado developed quickly in southwest Romeoville
and moved east, tracking just north of Lewis University
Airport. Damage was relatively minor, mostly consisting
of light roof damage, leaning utility poles, and downed
limbs. This supercell storm that produced this tornado
also resulted in fairly widespread corridors of
straight-line wind damage from Kendall County through
southern Cook County. Some of these strongest winds were
accompanied by large hail.

This was just east of Interstate 39. Damage was not
reported with this touchdown.

This tornado occurred just prior to the Dyer, Indiana
tornado from the same supercell storm. The tornado was
brief and produced only minor damage, including to roofs
and a downed light pole onto a car.

This tornado happened just after the Sauk Village, IL one
with the same storm circulation recycling, and just happened
to do so across the state line. This tornado caused damage in
a subdivision to trim, shingles, siding, and fascia on
several homes, as well as to a chimney on one home. Multiple
trees were snapped and many lost limbs. The tornado also
flipped a backyard shed and damaged fencing. The homes
between Willow and Scotty Lanes appeared to sustain the worst
damage.

Tornadoes into the following categories.
