This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Central
Illinois...Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.
.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.
Weather hazards expected...
Significant Thunderstorm Risk...with an associated:
Elevated hail risk...up to Quarter size.
Elevated damaging wind risk...up to 60 mph.
Elevated Flooding Risk.
DISCUSSION...
There is a chance for a few thunderstorms this afternoon, mainly
for areas south of Interstate 80. Any storms that do develop
could be strong with hail and isolated wind gusts.
More widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely across the
area tonight. These storms are expected to develop eastward into
northern Illinois this evening after 9 PM. While there is some
threat of severe weather with these storms this evening,
especially for areas south of I-80, at this time it appears the
best potential for severe weather will remain west of the area.
Periods of heavy rainfall will likely accompany these
thunderstorms, especially during the late evening. Given the
saturated soils over the area, any heavy rain that falls could
result in areas of flash flooding. This will be especially true
in areas that experience multiple thunderstorms. The heavy rain
threat should gradually diminish overnight.
Otherwise, expect flooding to continue on portions of the Fox,
the East Branch of the Dupage, the Illinois and the Pecatonica
rivers.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.
Wednesday...
Limited Severe Thunderstorm Risk.
Limited Flooding Risk.
Limited Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.
Thursday...
Limited Flooding Risk.
Significant Thunderstorm Risk.
Friday and Saturday...
Limited Thunderstorm Risk.
DISCUSSION:
Additional periods of showers and thunderstorms are possible over
the next few days. Otherwise, expect flooding to continue on area
rivers.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
Spotters may be needed this evening especially for southern
portions of the area.
GENERAL STORM MOTION OF THE DAY:
Moving toward the east northeast at 30 to 40 mph.
