Scattered precipitation will continue to develop across parts of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana early this morning, with a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain likely. Currently, light snow is mixing with sleet at times north of I-80. Expect this to spread into areas south of I-80 in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana over the next several hours. During that time, the snow and sleet will likely begin mixing with freezing rain. This may persist through around 8 AM CDT, with coverage then quickly diminishing.

Given the scattered nature of the precipitation, only anticipate a light dusting of snow. However, patchy slick conditions are possible this morning. Leave extra time to reach your destination and use caution.

  • Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for… Rain and Snowmelt in… Ogle County in north central Illinois… Lee County in north central Illinois… De Kalb County in north central Illinois… Winnebago County in north central Illinois… McHenry County in northeastern Illinois… Boone County in north central Illinois…

  • Until 245 PM CST

  • At 900 AM CST, radar indicated widespread moderate to at times heavy rain occurring across north central Illinois. Rainfall amounts of one half to three quarters of an inch had fell across most of the area early this morning, with at least an additional one half of an inch expected through 1 pm. The combination of this rain and snowmelt on frozen ground will likely cause minor flooding and ponding, including on some area roads.

  • Some locations that may experience flooding include… Rockford, McHenry, Belvidere, Woodstock, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Sycamore, Dixon, Rochelle, Harvard, and South Beloit.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots.
