A watch means severe thunderstorms or tornadoes are possible in your area over the next few hours. Be prepared. Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, for large areas, typically portions of states, and usually for 4 to 6 hours. For more information, visit www.spc.noaa.gov.
A warning means you need to take action because hail one inch or greater, winds 58 mph or greater, or a tornado is occurring or is imminent. Get indoors and to a place of safety immediately. Warnings are issued by your local National Weather Service office on a storm by storm basis, usually for portions of counties, for 30 to 60 minutes.
