The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

  • Flood Advisory for… Lake County in northeastern Illinois… Northern Kane County in northeastern Illinois… McHenry County in northeastern Illinois…

  • Until 300 PM CDT

  • At 1154 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy rain tracking slowly northward across far northeast Illinois. Similar rain will continue into early afternoon. This rainfall will cause minor flooding due to already wet ground conditions. Over one inch of rain has already fallen this morning in some locations.

  • Some locations that will experience flooding include… Elgin, Waukegan, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Carpentersville, Wheeling, Northbrook, North Chicago, Gurnee, Mundelein, Algonquin, Highland Park, McHenry, Vernon Hills, Woodstock, Zion, Grayslake, Libertyville and Lake Zurich.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
