…THE FLOOD ADVISORY FOR MINOR FLOODING IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1145 AM CDT FOR KENDALL…NORTHEASTERN LIVINGSTON…LAKE…WILL…GRUNDY…KANKAKEE…KANE…NORTHERN IROQUOIS…MCHENRY…DUPAGE AND COOK COUNTIES…
At 1036 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy rain continuing across northeast Illinois and this will through the rest of the morning. Minor flooding has been reported and should continue across this area, including the Chicago metro. Overflowing poor drainage areas will be most vulnerable, but other locations may also see flooding. Over an inch and a half of rain has already fallen early this morning in some locations, and this in on top of already wet ground conditions.
Some locations that will experience flooding include… Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Elgin, Waukegan, Cicero, Arlington Heights, Evanston, Schaumburg, Bolingbrook, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, Berwyn, Mount Prospect and Wheaton.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you can do so safely.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
