The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a
Flood Advisory for… Northern Ogle County in north central Illinois… Northern De Kalb County in north central Illinois… Winnebago County in north central Illinois… Western McHenry County in northeastern Illinois… Boone County in north central Illinois…
Until 300 PM CDT
At 1055 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated moderate to briefly heavy rain tracking slowly northward across far north central Illinois. Similar rain will continue into early afternoon. This rainfall will cause minor flooding due to already wet ground conditions, including in the Rockford area. Over one inch of rain has already fallen early this morning in some locations.
Some locations that will experience flooding include… Rockford, Belvidere, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Sycamore, Harvard, South Beloit, Rockton, Marengo, Genoa, Rockford Airport, Roscoe, Poplar Grove, Byron, Cherry Valley, Winnebago, Pecatonica, Kirkland, Durand and Capron.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
