Tuesday Afternoon through Tuesday Night...
Elevated Ice Accumulation Risk.
Significant Snow and Sleet Risk, especially far north central IL.
Wednesday Morning...
Limited Ice Accumulation Risk in far northern Illinois.
Thursday Night and Friday...
Limited Ice Accumulation Risk.
Limited Snow and Sleet Risk.
DISCUSSION:
Snow, possibly heavy times, will overspread the area mid to late
Tuesday afternoon into the early evening, before changing to a mix
including freezing rain from the late evening into the overnight.
Snow accumulations of several inches are expected in portions of
northern Illinois, mainly along and north of Interstate 88 and
especially in far north central Illinois, including the Rockford
metro area. Light ice accumulation is likely across much of the
area for at least a brief period Tuesday night. A transition to
primarily rain is expected early Wednesday morning, but continuing
travel impacts into the morning commute are likely.
A strong low pressure system lifting north could bring an
accumulating wintry mix, including freezing rain, Thursday night
into Friday.
