SUBJECT: Changes to River Forecast Services on the Des Plaines
River at Riverside, Illinois.
Beginning July 20, 2017, the following changes will be made to
River Forecast and Flood Warning Services in Northeast Illinois.
...Des Plaines River at Riverside, IL...
The Action Stage for the Des Plaines River at Riverside will be
raised from 6.0 to 7.0 feet. Flood Stage will be raised from
7.0 to 7.3 feet.
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) gage is located at the Barrypoint
Road Bridge in Riverside, IL. These changes are being made at the
request of the Village of Riverside and Cook County officials to
reflect changes in the river characteristics that have occurred over
the past several years.
River Forecast and Flood Warning information is available from the
NOAA NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service page by clicking on
the Rivers and Lakes link on the NWS Chicago web site at:
www.weather.gov/chicago
River Forecast and Flood information is also broadcast on NOAA
Weather Radio.
These changes are a result of cooperation with other agencies
including the Village of Riverside, Cook County Department of
Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the NWS North Central
River Forecast Center.
