...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 445 AM CDT FOR
NORTHERN KENDALL...SOUTHERN LAKE...NORTHWESTERN WILL...DE KALB...
KANE...SOUTHERN MCHENRY...DUPAGE AND NORTHWESTERN COOK COUNTIES...

At 152 AM CDT, broadcast media reported flash flooding in Elmhurst,
with a portion of Interstate 290 closed due to flooding. In
addition, trained weather spotters reported widespready flash
flooding in portions north central DuPage and adjacent Cook
Counties, including multiple roads covered by two to three feet of
water in Carol Stream, Hanover Township, Barlett and Medinah. Up to
two to four inches of rain fell since Thursday evening on top of
over an inch in portions of the area on Thursday morning.
Flash flooding is likely ongoing across much of the warned area.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Trained weather spotters.

IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage
and low lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Elgin, Arlington Heights,
Evanston, Schaumburg, Bolingbrook, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines,
Mount Prospect, Wheaton, Hoffman Estates, Downers Grove, Glenview,
Elmhurst, Lombard and Buffalo Grove.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flash flooding of
small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and
underpasses, country roads, farmland, and other drainage areas and
low lying spots.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
