The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a
Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for… Ogle County in north central Illinois… Northern De Kalb County in north central Illinois… Winnebago County in north central Illinois… Northern Kane County in northeastern Illinois… McHenry County in northeastern Illinois… Boone County in north central Illinois…
Until 500 AM CDT
At 1255 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms shifting east over much of far northern Illinois. The additional rain is falling over areas which have already received 2 to 5 inches of rainfall, and will likely cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area.
Some locations that will experience flooding include… Rockford, Carpentersville, Algonquin, McHenry, Belvidere, Woodstock, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Sycamore, Rochelle, Harvard, Island Lake, South Beloit, Rockton, Marengo, Genoa, Wonder Lake, Oregon, Mount Morris and Pistakee Highlands.
Additional rainfall of up to an inch is possible over portions of the area. This additional rain will likely produce minor flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
