  • TEMPERATURES…Afternoon highs in the lower to mid 90s Sunday, with lows only in the mid to upper 70s tonight.

  • HEAT INDICES…Peak afternoon heat indices in the 110 to 115 degree range.

  • IMPACTS…The high temperatures combined with ample sunshine and oppressive humidity will lead to potentially hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre- existing health conditions.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Take extra precautions…if you work or spend time outside. When possible…reschedule strenuous activities. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously high temperatures will occur. Heat index values will range from 105 to 115 with high temperatures in the lower to mid 90s. Temperatures and heat indices will only drop very slowly this evening.

There is a chance of thunderstorms overnight, mainly across north central Illinois. The storms are expected to be on a weakening trend if they do reach that area, so severe weather is unlikely at this time.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Sunday through Friday.

Elevated Severe Thunderstorm Risk.  Limited Flooding Risk.  Elevated Excessive Heat Risk.

  • TEMPERATURE…Afternoon highs in the mid 90s and nighttime lows in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees.

  • HEAT INDICES…Peak Heat Indices in the 105 to 115 degree range.

  • IMPACTS…The high temperatures, combined with ample sunshine and oppressive humidity, even at night, will lead to potentially hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of high temperatures is expected. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids…stay in an air-conditioned room…stay out of the sun…and check up on relatives and neighbors.

  • until Tuesday evening.

  • At 930 AM Thursday the stage was 10.9 feet.

  • Flood stage is 9.5 feet.

  • Moderate flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.

  • Forecast…The river will continue to rise near 10.9 feet by this afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage by Tuesday afternoon.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Central Illinois…Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.

.DAY ONE…Early this Morning through Tonight.

Weather hazards expected…

Limited Thunderstorm Risk.  Limited Excessive heat Risk.  Significant Fog Risk.

DISCUSSION…

Areas of fog will dissipate this morning.

Temperatures in the upper 80s combined with dewpoints around 70 will result in heat index readings of 90-95 away from the lake.

There is a slight chance of non-severe storms after midnight tonight along and west of Interstate 39.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Friday through Wednesday.

Friday and Saturday…

Limited Thunderstorm Risk.  Extreme Excessive Heat Risk.

Sunday through Wednesday…

DISCUSSION:

Temperatures in the middle to upper 90s combined with dewpoints in the middle 70s to around 80 degrees will combine to cause heat index readings in the 105 to 115 degree range. The highest heat indices will be Friday and Saturday afternoon.
