...Light to Moderate Snow Likely Tonight Thru Tuesday Morning...

Rain is expected to transition over to all snow across northern
Illinois later tonight, mainly after midnight. A period of light
to moderate snow is then expected through the early morning hours
on Tuesday. At this time, the highest amounts of one to three
inches are expected to fall closer to the Illinois and Wisconsin
border with amounts tapering off further to the south. Confidence
is high with the occurrence of snow tonight across northern
Illinois, however, there is lower confidence to the extent of the
intensity of the snow. It is possible for a period of heavier snow
to occur, and if this were to occur, then snowfall amounts could
be slightly higher.

Nonetheless, current forecast amounts could be enough to impact
the morning commute across far northern Illinois. Those with
travel plans along and north of I-88 tonight into Tuesday morning
should continue to monitor the forecast, and be prepared for

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
Elevated Thunderstorm Risk...with an associated:
Limited Tornado Risk.
Limited Hail Risk.
Limited Flooding Risk through mid morning.
Elevated Snow Risk late tonight.

DISCUSSION:

Showers and isolated non-severe thunderstorms are likely early
this morning, ending from the southwest during the early to mid
morning hours. Locally heavy rainfall in excess of an inch is
possible with this batch of rain, which could cause some minor
flooding and ponding of water in low lying and flood prone areas.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to re-develop this afternoon
over western Illinois, then track east across the northern
Illinois late this afternoon into early this evening. Widespread
severe weather is not expected, however, conditions are such that
a brief tornado or a bit of hail cannot be ruled out this
afternoon, mainly west of the Fox River.

Rain showers will change to snow showers tonight, mainly after
midnight. There is a chance of some heavier snow showers
developing north of I-88 and I-290, which if they develop could
drop a quick inch or two of slushy accumulation.

Finally, localized ice jam flooding will remain a threat on area
rivers.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Localized ice jam flooding will remain a threat on area rivers.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotters activation is not expected, but spotters are encouraged
to monitor weather conditions this afternoon and early evening.
