...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 AM CDT THIS
MORNING FOR LAKE IL AND NORTHEASTERN MCHENRY COUNTIES...
At 433 AM CDT, local law enforcement reported flash flooding of some
roads in and near Lake Bluff. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4.5
inches of rain have fallen in eastern McHenry and central Lake
County. The expected rainfall rate with scattered thunderstorms
through daybreak is 1 to 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is
ongoing.
HAZARD...Flash flooding.
SOURCE...Law enforcement.
IMPACT...Rapid-onset flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as
other poor drainage and low lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Waukegan, Crystal Lake, North Chicago, Gurnee, Mundelein, Highland
Park, Round Lake Beach, McHenry, Vernon Hills, Zion, Grayslake,
Libertyville, Lake Forest, Round Lake, Antioch, Wauconda, Fox
Lake, Lake Villa, Island Lake and Cary.
Rivers and streams impacted include the Skokie River and northern
portions of the North Branch of the Chicago River.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Expect flooding of creeks, ditches, canals, and storm sewers, as
well roadways, underpasses, and other poor drainage areas.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
