DISCUSSION:
A strong storm system will bring rain, snow, strong winds, and
possibly a brief period of freezing rain on Thursday. Accumulating
snow is still likely, especially north of I-80 where a few to
several inches of snow are possible, with the highest amounts
northwest of the Chicago area.

There is a brief window where some light icing may occur Thursday
morning with areas north starting as snow. Precipitation will turn to
rain along and south of I-80 and likely in parts of the Chicago
area, with a snow or rain-snow mix elsewhere. A strong cold front will
change precipitation to all snow Thursday evening. Winds gusting to
40 mph, maybe briefly higher, could also occur during the evening
during some light to moderate snow falling. Reduced visibility
from the snow and wind will create hazardous travel conditions. In
addition, localized flash freeze conditions may result from wet
pavement in areas that do not get much snow.

A bitterly cold air mass will arrive over the weekend, possibly
with snow and travel impacts leading its arrival Saturday into
Saturday night. Well below zero lows and dangerously cold minimum
wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero or even colder are quite
possible, especially Sunday through Monday morning. Wind chill values
will likely remain below zero for several days in many areas.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
