THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.
.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.
WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS...SOME OF WHICH MAY PRODUCE:
WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH.
HAIL UP TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER.
TORRENTIAL RAINFALL AND LOCALIZED FLOODING.
FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
POSSIBLY A TORNADO.
AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:
AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER PORTIONS OF THE REGION EARLY THIS
MORNING WILL WEAKEN AND MOVE EAST OF THE AREA AFTER SUNRISE.
A FEW THUNDERSTORMS MAY CONTINUE THROUGH MID MORNING...MAINLY
SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80.
ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON
ACROSS AREAS WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER...AND MOVE INTO
NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THEN SPREAD EAST
ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE OUTLOOK AREA THIS EVENING. SOME OF
THESE STORMS MAY BE SEVERE AND MAY ALSO PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL THIS EVENING. THUNDERSTORMS WILL THEN DIMINISH AND
GRADUALLY MOVE EAST OF THE AREA AFTER MIDNIGHT.
DISCUSSION:
A VERY WARM AND HUMID AIR MASS WILL SET THE STAGE FOR THE
POTENTIAL FOR BOTH SEVERE WEATHER AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL
LATER TODAY. THUNDERSTORMS MOVING THROUGH THE AREA EARLY THIS
MORNING ARE EXPECTED TO WEAKEN AND EVENTUALLY END AS AN UPPER
LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVES EAST OF THE REGION. THE ATMOSPHERE
WILL DESTABILIZE WITH DAYTIME HEATING AHEAD OF ANOTHER MORE
SUBSTANTIAL DISTURBANCE AND SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WHICH
WILL APPROACH THE AREA LATER TODAY.
THE COMBINATION OF STRONG INSTABILITY...STRONG WINDS ALOFT...AND
THE APPROACHING LOW PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO RESULT IN SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT TO OUR WEST THIS AFTERNOON. THESE
STORMS WILL SPREAD EAST INTO NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST
INDIANA DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS. STORMS
WHICH DEVELOP INITIALLY THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS PARTS OF NORTHERN
MISSOURI...IOWA AND NORTHWEST ILLINOIS WILL LIKELY QUICKLY BECOME
SEVERE WITH THE POTENTIAL OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL
AND EVEN A FEW TORNADOES. STORMS ARE THEN EXPECTED TO DEVELOP INTO
AN EASTWARD MOVING COMPLEX WITH A SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL FOR
DAMAGING WINDS ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA THIS
EVENING.
PORTIONS OF THE IROQUOIS AND KANKAKEE RIVERS WILL REMAIN IN FLOOD.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS SATURDAY NIGHT INTO
SUNDAY.
PORTIONS OF THE IROQUOIS AND KANKAKEE RIVERS WILL REMAIN IN
FLOOD.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
SPOTTER ACTIVATION MAY BE NECESSARY LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO
TONIGHT.
