DISCUSSION...

Strong north winds will continue through early evening before
dropping off significantly tonight. Waves will also subside
which will lessen the lakeshore flood impacts tonight, though
standing water near the lake will linger into the evening and
early overnight hours due to very high lake levels.

The Flood Watch for a portion of northeast Illinois will expire
at 6 AM CDT this morning. Rain is gradually ending and any rain is
less in intensity than yesterday. Localized flooding does exist
across northeast Illinois due to all the rain that has fell since
Tuesday night. Remember, never cross a flooded roadway.

* Until 945 AM CDT Thursday.

* At 345 AM CDT, moderate rain was very gradually diminishing across
northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana and this will continue to
diminish through the rest of this morning. Observations and radar
indicate 2 to 3 inches of rain had fell over much of the area
since Tuesday evening, with 3 to 4.5 inches in some parts
including Lake and McHenry Counties. This has likely resulted in
minor flooding throughout the Advisory area, including some
streams over their banks.

* Some locations that will experience minor flooding in or near them
include Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Elgin, Waukegan,
Cicero, Hammond, Gary, Arlington Heights, Evanston, Schaumburg,
Bolingbrook, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines, Orland Park, Tinley
Park, Oak Lawn and Berwyn.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

The Flood Watch continues for

* A portion of northeast Illinois, including the following
areas, Central Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake IL, McHenry, Northern
Cook, Northern Will, and Southern Cook.

* Until 6 AM CDT this morning

* Rain will continue through sunrise then gradually start to
wane through mid to late morning. An additional one half inch
of rain is probable in some locations through mid morning, on
top of two to four and a half inches that have feel since
Tuesday night, with the highest amounts having been in the
northern Chicago suburbs.

* Roadways, viaducts, ditches, and other poor drainage areas may
be impacted. Agricultural land and poor drainage areas may be
inundated in rural areas. River and small stream rises will
occur with flooding of these waterways also possible. This
includes the Des Plaines, DuPage, and Fox Rivers and their
tributaries.

At 1143 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated steady moderate rain
continuing over much of the advisory area. This will likely continue
to cause pockets of minor flooding in the advisory area, especially
in low lying and flood prone areas, including near rivers and
streams. Some roads may have water over them. Up to one to three
inches of rain have already fallen in portions of the advisory area.
Additional rainfall of a half inch to one inch is possible over
portions of northeast Illinois.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Excessive runoff from the rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses,
country roads, farmland, as well as other drainage areas and low
lying spots.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

* At 845 PM CDT, doppler radar indicated steady rain falling across
the advisory area. This will likely cause pockets of minor
flooding, especially in low lying and flood prone areas, including
near rivers and streams. The heaviest rain as of 845 PM CDT was
occcurring near and east of the I-57 corridor of eastern and east
central Illinois into northwest Indiana. Local law enforcement
reported minor street flooding in southwest Plainfield this
evening. Up to one to two inches of rain have already fallen in
portions of the advisory area today. Additional rainfall of up to
an inch is expected over the area through the overnight.

Persistent moderate rain will continue through late tonight.
Additional amounts of one to one and a half inches are possible
in an area of northeast Illinois. This may result in impacting
flooding, while elsewhere localized more nuisance flooding may
occur.

Northerly winds will increase into tonight, with gusts of 35 to
40 mph. Higher gusts will be seen along the lake front. Waves
from these strong winds will likely result in lakeshore flooding
along the Cook county and northwest Indiana shorelines.

The Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of north central Illinois and northeast Illinois,
including the following areas, in north central Illinois,
Boone and De Kalb. In northeast Illinois, Central Cook,
DuPage, Kane, Lake IL, McHenry, and Northern Cook.

* Through late tonight

* Rain will persist through late Thursday morning, falling
moderately at times through tonight. Totals of one to two and
a half inches are expected in much of the Watch area. Some
locations in far northern Illinois on Tuesday afternoon and
night saw one to two inches of rain, making them most
susceptible to flooding with the additional rain through
tonight.

* Roadways, viaducts, ditches, and other poor drainage areas may
be impacted. Agricultural land and poor drainage areas may be
inundated in rural areas. River and small stream rises will
occur with flooding of these waterways also possible. This
includes the Des Plaines, DuPage, Fox, and Kishwaukee Rivers
and their tributaries.
