...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 445 AM CDT FOR
SOUTHERN LAKE...NORTHERN KANE...SOUTHERN MCHENRY...NORTHERN DUPAGE
AND NORTHWESTERN COOK COUNTIES...
At 408 AM CDT, Doppler radar continued to indicate widely scattered
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across portions of the warned
area. Radar rainfall estimates indicate that up to 5 inches of rain
had fallen with earlier slow moving storms from northern Kane County
into northern DuPage County...with up to 2 inches across portions of
northern Cook County. Additional rainfall amounts of up to an inch
is possible across isolated parts of the northeastern Cook county
through 6 am.
Significant flooding was reported earlier in the Pingree Grove and
Elgin areas...with cars stuck in flood waters and many streets
flooded and impassible.
Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Elgin, Arlington Heights, Evanston, Schaumburg, Palatine, Skokie, Des
Plaines, Mount Prospect, Hoffman Estates, Glenview, Elmhurst,
Lombard, Buffalo Grove, Carol Stream, Carpentersville, Wheeling, Park
Ridge, Addison, Northbrook and St. Charles.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
