...STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS LATE TONIGHT AND INTO SUNDAY...

Breezy conditions will prevail through the rest of the evening
with occasional gusts to around 35 mph expected. Stronger winds
are forecast to develop quickly after midnight with the passage
of a cold front as winds turn northwesterly. Winds could locally
and briefly gust to 45 to 50 mph immediately behind the front,
while gusts of 35 to 45 mph are expected to prevail through at
least early afternoon Sunday before easing during the evening.

These strong and gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,
including some tent structures. Driving may be difficult for high
profile vehicles, especially on southwest-to-northeast oriented
roads. Plan accordingly.

...STRONG WINDS OVERNIGHT AND SUNDAY...

While breezy conditions will prevail into this evening with
occasional gusts over 35 mph, even stronger winds will occur
behind a cold front passage tonight. This front will pass near
midnight, turning winds out of the northwest and bringing gusts of
40 to 45 mph. These wind gusts will be fairly frequent through at
least early afternoon Sunday.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects, including some
tent structures. Driving may be difficult for high profile
vehicles, especially on southwest-to-northeast oriented roads.
Plan accordingly.

will build to 12 feet or slightly higher, which will likely
produce minor to moderate lakeshore flooding and exacerbate beach
erosion due to high lake levels. Both the Illinois and Indiana
shores will be affected.

which could pose a brief severe threat with damaging winds and

DISCUSSION...

Areas of dense fog will continue south of I-80 through mid morning
and may advance to some places north of I-80 for a brief period.

After early morning thunderstorms depart, the day will be free of
storms. The likelihood of some thunderstorms will return into
north central Illinois late this evening and across much of
northern Illinois overnight. A few of these storms, mainly in
north central Illinois, could produce marginally severe hail and
wind gusts over 45 mph. In addition, some minor flooding is
possible in poor drainage areas.

...FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM CDT /2 AM EDT/ TO
9 AM CDT /10 AM EDT/ FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Several hours of sub-freezing temperatures, with lows
in the upper 20s and low 30s. Some of the coldest locations
may briefly drop into the mid 20s.

* WHERE...North central and northeast Illinois away from the
heart of Chicago and northwest Indiana.

* WHEN...From 1 AM CDT /2 AM EDT/ to 9 AM CDT /10 AM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
