.DAY ONE…Tonight.

Weather hazards expected…

Limited Thunderstorm Risk south and east. Elevated Non thunderstorm wind Risk. Extreme Snow Risk. Significant Lakeshore Flood Risk

DISCUSSION…

A powerful winter storm will bring blizzard conditions and very heavy snow to portions of the area. Accumulations will exceed a foot in some areas, including across the northwest suburbs and portions of north central Illinois. Most importantly, conditions will deteriorate rapidly this evening from northwest to southeast. Snowfall rates will exceed 2 inches per hour tonight which will allow for quick accumulation on roadways. Winds during the heaviest snow will reach 40 to 50 mph, and this will make travel dangerous to near impossible in some locations. Amounts will vary right along the lakeshore where temperatures are warmer. Strong onshore winds will also produce large waves and lakeshore flooding along the Illinois and Indiana Lake Michigan shores.

Thunder may accompany some of the precipitation this evening, especially along and southeast of Interstate 55.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Monday through Saturday.

Monday…

Limited Excessive Cold Risk. Elevated Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk. Limited Snow Risk. Significant Lakeshore Flood Risk

Tuesday and Wednesday…

Limited Excessive Cold Risk.

DISCUSSION:

Snow will taper in the morning, with gusty winds to start the day.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT…

Spotter reports of snow and blizzard conditions will be appreciated, though spotters are not encouraged to drive out in the dangerous conditions.
