NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.
.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.
WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
INTENSE HEAT.
MARINE FOG PUSHING INTO DOWNTOWN CHICAGO.
CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS...POSSIBLY SEVERE WITH:
DAMAGING WINDS OVER 60 MPH.
HAIL TO THE SIZE OF HALF DOLLARS.
FREQUENT LIGHTNING.
AND HEAVY RAIN.
AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:
INTENSE HEAT IS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AWAY FROM LAKE
MICHIGAN.
THERE IS A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM TODAY AND TONIGHT...HOWEVER
IT APPEARS THAT THE GREATEST THREAT OF STORMS AND SEVERE WEATHER
WILL BE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WEST OF A HARVARD ILLINOIS
TO FOWLER INDIANA LINE.
DISCUSSION:
A WEAK COOL FRONT WILL MOVE SOUTHWEST OFF OF LAKE MICHIGAN EARLIER
TODAY AND IS EXPECTED TO STALL THIS AFTERNOON FROM NORTH
CENTRAL ILLINOIS SOUTHEAST TO NORTHWEST INDIANA. THE CHANCE OF
THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THIS FRONT IS NOT PARTICULARLY
HIGH...SHOULD THEY OCCUR THEN THE POTENTIAL WOULD EXIST FOR
EXPLOSIVE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING. DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL WOULD BE THE PRIMARY
SEVERE THREATS.
IT WILL BE VERY HOT AND HUMID ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE FRONT WITH
HEAT INDEX READINGS ONCE AGAIN CLIMBING ABOVE 105 DEGREES.
IN ADDITION AN AREA OF MARINE FOG HAS DRIFTED SOUTH ACROSS LAKE
MICHIGAN AND PUSHED INLAND. THIS MARINE FOG IS NOT EXPECTED TO PUSH
BEYOND A MILE INLAND FROM LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES IN ILLINOIS AND
LAKE AND PORTER COUNTIES IN INDIANA. VISIBILITIES WILL RANGE BETWEEN
ONE HALF MILE TO AT TIMES LESS THAN ONE QUARTER MILE. FOG IS EXPECTED
TO SLOWLY ERODE THIS AFTERNOON.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY.
INTENSE HEAT WILL CONTINUE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY WITH HEAT
INDEX READINGS OF 105 TO POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS 115 LIKELY BOTH
AFTERNOONS.
A PERIOD OR TWO OF THUNDERSTORMS COULD OCCUR FRIDAY THROUGH THE
THE WEEKEND.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
SPOTTERS MAY BE NEEDED THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
