THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:

THUNDERSTORMS...SOME OF WHICH MAY BE SEVERE AND PRODUCE:

WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.
FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WHICH COULD LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING.
HAIL TO THE SIZE OF GOLF BALLS.
AN ISOLATED TORNADO.

AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE EARLY THIS
MORNING MAINLY NORTH OF THE I-90 CORRIDOR ACROSS NORTHERN
ILLINOIS. ADDITIONAL SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS MAY DEVELOP
ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS DURING THE EARLY TO
MID AFTERNOON...WITH THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE INCREASING THIS
EVENING AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT.

DISCUSSION:

A THUNDERSTORM COMPLEX WAS MOVING TO THE EAST SOUTHEAST ACROSS
WISCONSIN EARLY THIS MORNING...WITH ISOLATED TO SCATTERED
ELEVATED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLY DEVELOPING ACROSS FAR NORTHERN
ILLINOIS IN A REGION OF MOIST ASCENT ALONG THE SOUTHERN FLANK
OF THIS SYSTEM. THIS THUNDERSTORM COMPLEX WILL TRAIL AN
OUTFLOW BOUNDARY WHICH WILL LIKELY SETTLE ACROSS ILLINOIS
DURING THE DAY...AND MAY BECOME A FOCUS FOR ADDITIONAL
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT THIS AFTERNOON. A
COMBINATION OF A VERY WARM...MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS
AND THE PRESENCES OF RELATIVELY STRONG WINDS ALOFT WILL
RESULT THE THREAT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING. THE MAIN THREATS WILL BE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS...THOUGH
STORMS WHICH FORM NEAR THE OUTFLOW BOUNDARY OVER MAINLY NORTH
CENTRAL ILLINOIS MAY WILL ALSO HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE
LARGE HAIL...AND POSSIBLY AN ISOLATED TORNADO. THUNDERSTORMS
WILL ALSO BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL...WITH
FLOODING POSSIBLE WHERE STORMS TRAIN OVER THE SAME AREA.
THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND SPREAD
SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE OUTLOOK AREA TONIGHT AS
A COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE NORTHWEST.

HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB INTO THE 90S THIS AFTERNOON...WHICH
COMBINED WITH HIGH HUMIDITY WILL LIKELY RESULT IN PEAK HEAT INDEX
VALUES OF 105 TO 110 DEGREES.

PORTIONS OF THE ILLINOIS...IROQUOIS...AND KANKAKEE RIVERS REMAIN
IN FLOOD.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY SUNDAY...ESPECIALLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF
THE INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR. SOME OF THESE STORMS MAY BE SEVERE.

THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ON TUESDAY...AND AGAIN
THURSDAY.

PORTIONS OF THE ILLINOIS...IROQUOIS...AND KANKAKEE RIVERS WILL
REMAIN IN FLOOD.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTERS MAY BE NEEDED THIS AFTERNOON ESPECIALLY ACROSS NORTHERN
ILLINOIS. SPOTTERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO RELAY ANY WIND...HAIL...OR
MEASURED HEAVY RAINFALL REPORTS TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
