...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT NOW THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued an Air
Pollution Action Day for Friday August 1st for all of Illinois due to
wildfire smoke.

An Illinois "Air Pollution Action Day" is declared when weather
conditions are such that widespread ozone and or particulate levels
are expected to be at or above the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
(UGS) category of the Air Quality Index for all or almost all of
Illinois.

USG - Active children and adults especially with pulmonary or
respiratory disease such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor
activity.

Unhealthy - Everyone should reduce prolonged activities or heavy
exertion outdoors.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding
may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be
flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 542 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated nearly stationary thunderstorms along a line from
near Huntley to West Chicago. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain
has fallen based on radar and automated gauges.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall due to repeated
rounds of torrential rain-producing thunderstorms is possible.

* WHERE...Boone, De Kalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, Winnebago, Lake IL
and McHenry counties in Illinois.

* WHEN...Through Saturday evening.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. In
addition, roads and streets may flood, especially in areas where
storm drains are clogged with debris. Finally, flooding of
basements may occur if thunderstorms train over urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Over the next 36 hours, several rounds of torrential rain-
producing thunderstorms are possible in the watch area
including over areas that experienced several inches of rain
in the past few days. The tropical-like airmass will support

northeastern IL and northwestern IN today, with peak afternoon
heat indices near 105 degrees.

Thunderstorms will redevelop across northern Illinois this
afternoon, then gradually sag south into this evening. The
strongest storms will be capable of producing locally damaging
wind gusts and torrential rainfall that could result in localized
flash flooding.
