THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:

THUNDERSTORMS...WHICH MAY PRODUCE:
WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.
QUARTER SIZE HAIL.
FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS.

AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FEW ISOLATED
STORMS LATE THIS AFTERNOON...MAINLY AFTER 4 PM CDT. HOWEVER...THE
MAIN FOCUS FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL SPREAD SOUTHEASTWARD
ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS EARLY THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE ACROSS
EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND NORTHWESTERN INDIANA DURING THE LATE
EVENING AND OVERNIGHT HOURS.

DISCUSSION:

A COLD FRONT WILL DROP SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS SOUTHERN WISCONSIN
EARLY THIS EVENING. THE AIRMASS TO THE SOUTH OF THIS FRONT IS
EXPECTED TO BECOME VERY WARM AND MOIST...RESULTING IN UNSTABLE
CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA. HOWEVER THE CHALLENGE REMAINS WITH
TIMING...GIVEN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A WARM LAYER ALOFT THAT IS
EXPECTED TO PERSIST THROUGH AT LEAST 3 PM CDT. THIS WARM LAYER
MAY LIMIT THE COVERAGE AND DEVELOPMENT OF ISOLATED STORMS UNTIL
LATER THIS AFTERNOON...OR LIMIT CONVECTION TO JUST AHEAD OF THE
FRONTAL BOUNDARY. AS AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE APPROACHES THE
AREA LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP
ACROSS SOUTHERN WISCONSIN BY LATE AFTERNOON. THE STORMS MAY
THEN FORM INTO SOUTHEASTWARD MOVING LINES CAPABLE OF PRODUCING
STRONG DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH ACROSS NORTHERN
ILLINOIS INTO THIS EVENING. ALTHOUGH STRONG WINDS WILL BE THE
PRIMARY SEVERE THREAT...THERE IS ALSO A SECONDARY THREAT FOR
QUARTER SIZE HAIL.

THESE STORMS MAY CONTINUE TO BE SEVERE AS THEY MOVE ACROSS
EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND NORTHWESTERN INDIANA LATER IN THE
EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. HOWEVER...THERE IS SOME QUESTION AS TO
WHETHER OR NOT THEY WILL BEGIN WEAKENING PRIOR TO REACHING
THESE AREAS. THEREFORE THE SEVERE THREAT IS MORE UNCERTAIN FOR
AREAS TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE CHICAGO METRO AREA. TORRENTIAL
DOWNPOURS ARE EXPECTED WITH THESE STORMS...BUT DO TO THE
FAIRLY QUICK MOVEMENT...EXTREME RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE UNLIKELY.

PORTIONS OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER WILL REMAIN IN FLOOD TODAY.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

THERE WILL BE PERIODIC CHANCES OF THUNDERSTORMS LATE MONDAY NIGHT
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AND AGAIN SATURDAY.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER MAY BE NEEDED ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS THIS EVENING.
