Weather hazards expected... Limited Snow Risk this evening. Limited Ice Accumulation Risk far south tonight. DISCUSSION... Light snow is expected to develop across parts of northern IL after 6 PM this evening, then end from northwest to southeast after midnight. While most areas will not see more than a half inch of accumulation, there is some potential for one or two narrow bands of heavier snow this evening, which could result in localized snow amounts of a couple inches and cause slippery travel. In addition to the snow, a period of light freezing rain is possible tonight across far southern sections of the area, mainly along and south of U.S. 24. This may result in a minor glazing of ice accumulation. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday. Saturday... Elevated Snow Risk. Limited Excessive Cold Risk. Sunday... Elevated Excessive Cold Risk. Monday... Limited Excessive Cold Risk. DISCUSSION: A winter storm may impact the area on New Year Day. While questions regarding the track of this system remain, there is the potential for several inches of snow to fall across the area.
