SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS...SOME MAY PRODUCE:
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.
NICKLE SIZED HAIL.
CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
BRIEF TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS...WITH LOCALIZED FLOODING.
AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:
AREAS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE
AFTERNOON BUT NOT ALL AREAS WILL SEE RAIN. SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS WILL REDEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA LATE THIS AFTERNOON
OR EARLY THIS EVENING ESPECIALLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80 ACROSS
NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS
WILL CONTINUE DURING THE OVERNIGHT.
DISCUSSION:
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN MOVING
OVER AREAS ALREADY RECEIVING IN EXCESS OF 3 INCHES OF RAIN AROUND
OTTAWA WILL CONTINUE TO AGGRAVATE FLOODING IN THAT AREA. ELSEWHERE
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN MAY CAUSE PONDING OF WATER ON
ROADWAYS AND FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS ESPECIALLY ALONG CREEKS
AND STREAMS.
A WARM FRONT DISPLACED DUE TO THE ONGOING CONVECTION SOUTH OF THE
AREA IS EXPECTED TO SURGE BACK NORTHWARD LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND
THIS EVENING. WITH IT SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO
REDEVELOP ESPECIALLY NORTH OF I-80 TOWARD EVENING.
THE GREATEST HAZARD FROM ANY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS BESIDES THE
HEAVY RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO BE BE DAMAGING WINDS. WHILE THE
THREAT IS MINIMAL...SOME THUNDERSTORMS MAY PRODUCE LARGE HAIL AS
WELL.
PORTIONS OF THE KANKAKEE RIVER IN NORTHWEST INDIANA WILL REMAIN
IN FLOOD.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
AS A STRONG UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM MOVES ACROSS THE REGION
TUESDAY...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE TUESDAY AFTERNOON
AND EVENING. PERIODIC CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS FOR THE ENTIRE
OUTLOOK AREA WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK.
PORTIONS OF THE KANKAKEE RIVER IN NORTHWEST INDIANA WILL REMAIN
IN FLOOD.
