SUBJECT: Changes to River Forecast Services on the Des Plaines
River at Riverside, Illinois.
Beginning September 24, 2017, the following changes were made to
River Forecast and Flood Warning Services in Northeast Illinois.
...Des Plaines River at Riverside, IL...
The Action Stage for the Des Plaines River at Riverside was raised
from 6.0 to 7.0 feet. Flood Stage was raised from 7.0 to 7.5 feet.
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) gage is located at the Barrypoint
Road Bridge in Riverside, IL. These changes were made at the
request of Riverside and Cook County officials to reflect changes in
the river characteristics that have occurred over the past several
years.
River Forecast and Flood Warning information is available from the
NOAA NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service page by clicking on
the Rivers and Lakes link on the NWS Chicago web site at:
www.weather.gov/chicago
River Forecast and Flood information is also broadcast on NOAA
Weather Radio.
These changes are a result of cooperation among multiple agencies,
including the Village of Riverside, IL, Cook County Department of
Homeland Security and Emergency Management, NWS North Central River
Forecast Center in Chanhassen, MN and NWS Forecast Office Chicago in
Romeoville, IL.
