Hazardous Weather Outlook 04:57:17.1765863

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE SOUTH ACROSS THE AREA TODAY.
PRECIPITATION ALONG FRONT WILL BE IN THE FORM OF RAIN...BUT AS
MUCH COLDER AIR FILTERS IN BEHIND THE FRONT...ANY TRAILING
PRECIPITATION WILL QUICKLY CHANGE OVER TO LIGHT SNOW. THE COLD
FRONT WILL PUSH SOUTH OF THE OUTLOOK AREA BY EARLY EVENING WITH
THE ASSOCIATED SNOW TAPERING OFF. SOME ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE...
WITH UP TO AN INCH POSSIBLE IN SOME LOCATIONS...ESPECIALLY ON
GRASSY SURFACES.

AS TEMPERATURES SHARPLY DROP OFF AFTER THE FRONTAL PASSAGE...SOME
ICY PATCHES MAY DEVELOP...ESPECIALLY ON ELEVATED ROADS.

LAKE EFFECT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN LATE THIS EVENING OVER
PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST INDIANA...MAINLY EAST OF GARY. AS IS TYPICAL
WITH LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS...EXACTLY WHERE THE BAND SETS UP IS
STILL UNCERTAIN...HOWEVER THE LATEST GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT THE
EASTERN PORTIONS OF PORTER COUNTY WILL LIKELY SEE THE GREATEST
SNOW ACCUMULATION. UNDER THE MOST INTENSE SNOW BANDS...WHITEOUT
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITH SNOW RATES OF 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR
POSSIBLE. GUSTY WINDS TO AROUND 35 MPH WILL ALSO LEAD TO BLOWING
AND DRIFTING SNOW.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

THE LAKE EFFECT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO TUESDAY
MORNING. BY LATE MORNING...IT IS EXPECTED THAT WINDS WILL BECOME
MORE NORTHWESTERLY...FORCING THE HEAVIER LAKE EFFECT SNOW TO THE
EAST OF PORTER COUNTY. WHILE EASTERN PORTER COUNTY IS EXPECTED TO
SEE THE HEAVIEST TOTAL SNOWFALL...OTHER LOCATIONS IN NORTHWESTERN
INDIANA AS FAR WEST AS THE STATE LINE SHOULD SEE AT LEAST SOME
ACCUMULATING LAKE EFFECT SNOW.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL NOT BE NECESSARY THROUGH TONIGHT...BUT
SNOW ACCUMULATION REPORTS WILL BE APPRECIATED.
