Areas affected...Eastern NY...VT...NH...ME

Concerning...Heavy snow

Valid 120916Z - 121515Z

SUMMARY...Snowfall will continue to overspread New England and will
increase in intensity early this morning. Snowfall rates are
expected to reach 1 inch per hour in some areas mainly from eastern
New York east northeastward across Vermont, New Hampshire and into
the southern half of Maine away from the immediate coast.

DISCUSSION...The latest water vapor imagery shows an upper-level
trough over the western Great Lakes region with a plume of moisture
located well ahead of the system across the central and northern
Appalachian mountains. A 60 to 75 kt low-level jet is analyzed by
RAP data over the Mid-Atlantic region. This feature is forecast to
move northeastward toward southern New England early this morning.
The left exit region of the low-level jet will overspread New
England helping to enhance isentropic lift and resulting in an
increase in snowfall intensity.

Model guidance including the HRRR, NAM and ECMWF are in agreement
with a band of heavy snowfall developing from near Albany and Glen
Falls, New York spreading east northeastward across southern Vermont
into south central New Hampshire over the next 2 to 3 hours. The
heavy snowfall is forecast to reach southern Maine by daybreak and
may affect areas as far northeast as Bangor, Maine just after
daybreak. Snowfall rates should be around an inch per hour within
the heavier portions of the band.
