THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.
.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.
WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS...SOME OF WHICH MAY PRODUCE:
OCCASIONAL CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
HEAVY RAINFALL WHICH COULD LEAD TO LOCALIZED FLOODING.
DOWNPOURS.
HAIL TO 1/2 INCH IN DIAMETER.
WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH.
AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT AREAS MAINLY SOUTH OF A
DIXON TO WATSEKA ILLINOIS LINE THIS MORNING. MORE WIDESPREAD
THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP LATE TONIGHT...WITH PORTIONS OF
NORTHERN ILLINOIS NORTH AND WEST OF THE INTERSTATE 57 CORRIDOR
MOST LIKELY TO SEE STORMS OVERNIGHT.
DISCUSSION:
LOW PRESSURE WAS DEVELOPING ACROSS THE PLAINS THIS MORNING...
WITH AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING FROM NORTHEAST IOWA
INTO CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THESE STORMS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE
SOUTHEAST THIS MORNING...AFFECTING SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE
OUTLOOK AREA. SOME OF THESE STORMS PRODUCED HAIL AND HEAVY
RAINFALL ACROSS THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY OVERNIGHT...
THOUGH STORMS SHOULD WEAKEN AS THEY MOVE FARTHER EAST AND
ENCOUNTER DRIER AND MORE STABLE AIR IN THE LOW LEVELS OF THE
ATMOSPHERE. AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DEEPENS AND BEGINS
TO MOVE TOWARD THE UPPER MIDWEST LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT...
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD. THUNDERSTORMS WILL
BE MOST LIKELY AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR
LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL AND PORTIONS OF
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS. A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL
EXIST TONIGHT MAINLY FROM THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY WESTWARD.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY.
THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF
THE OUTLOOK AREA WEDNESDAY...ESPECIALLY FOR AREAS ALONG AND EAST OF
THE INTERSTATE 55 CORRIDOR IN EAST CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST ILLINOIS
AND NORTHWEST INDIANA. THE PRIMARY RISK FROM SEVERE STORMS WOULD BE
STRONG DAMAGING WINDS...THOUGH LARGE HAIL MAY OCCUR WITH THE
STRONGER STORMS AS WELL AS A LOW POTENTIAL FOR A TORNADO. TIMING
OF THE SEVERE THREAT WILL MAINLY BE DURING THE MIDDAY AND
AFTERNOON HOURS.
WIDESPREAD RAINFALL OF 1.5 TO 2 INCHES IS POSSIBLE WITH THE
THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE
POSSIBLE WHERE MULTIPLE STORMS TRAIN ACROSS THE SAME LOCATION.
HIGH WAVES WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS SWIMMING CONDITIONS ON LAKE
MICHIGAN WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY...PARTICULARLY AT BEACHES
ALONG THE INDIANA SHORE.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL NOT BE NECESSARY THROUGH TONIGHT.
