Flood Potential Outlook 04:44:58.1692702

...ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

STRONG LOW PRESSURE OVER THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THIS MORNING
WILL CONTINUE TO DEEPEN AS IT LIFTS NORTHEAST ACROSS THE NORTHERN
GREAT LAKES REGION THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

A COUPLE OF SWATHS OF LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL OCCURRED OVERNIGHT
OVER PORTIONS OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND FAR NORTHWEST INDIANA.
RAINFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF TWO INCHES HAD FALLEN IN A NARROW
CORRIDOR FROM ROUGHLY NEAR LASALLE...TO SANDWICH...TO DOWNTOWN
CHICAGO...AND A SECOND NARROW BAND OCCURRED LAST EVENING FROM
NEAR PONTIAC TO PEOTONE AND GARY.

ADDITIONAL PERIODS OF RAIN AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED
TODAY...WHICH COULD BRING AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2 INCHES TO THE SAME
GENERAL AREA. THIS COULD RESULT IN RISES IN WATER LEVELS
PARTICULARLY IN SOME OF THE SMALLER URBAN CREEKS AND RIVERS ACROSS
CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE CHICAGO METRO AREA...AS WELL
AS SOME SMALLER RISES ON LARGER TRIBUTARIES. IN ADDITION...LOCALIZED
FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS WILL BE POSSIBLE.

RAIN IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF AND END FROM WEST TO EAST THIS
EVENING BEHIND A COLD FRONT WHICH WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA LATER
TODAY.
