Weather hazards expected...

Limited Thunderstorm Risk this morning...with an associated:
Limited damaging wind risk...up to 60 mph.
Elevated Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.
Limited Snow Risk.

DISCUSSION...

There is a chance for spotty, embedded thunderstorms across the
area early this morning.

Quick-moving showers, and maybe a thunderstorm or two, capable of
isolated wind damage will be possible across locations south of the
Kankakee River Valley early this morning.

Southwest winds will gust to 45 to 55 mph across locations south
of I-80 and along and east of I-55 today, with the highest gusts
south of the Kankakee River Valley. These winds will be capable of
downing small limbs.

Rain will change to snow over northwest and portions of far
northern Illinois late this morning into early afternoon. Some of
this snow may briefly fall heavy and result in minor accumulations.

No hazardous weather is expected at this time.

DISCUSSION...

Widespread rain will move over the area tonight with embedded
thunderstorms possible late.

Rainfall will occasionally be heavy overnight. This may result in
minor ponding on roadways that could linger into the Thursday
morning commute.

Elevated Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.
Limited Severe Thunderstorm Risk in the morning.
Limited Snow Risk.

DISCUSSION:

Winds strong enough to down tree limbs and cause a few power
outages are expected on Thursday, primarily south of I-80 and east
of I-55. This area also may see morning showers and perhaps a
thunderstorm or two capable of producing isolated severe gusts,
mainly between 4 and 9 A.M.

Rain is expected to change or mix with snow in portions of north
central and far northern Illinois, mainly in the afternoon
Thursday. Some minor accumulations on grassy or elevated surfaces
are possible, although significant travel impacts are not
anticipated.

A strong low pressure area will move across the region during the
daytime Thursday. The path of this low will result in potentially
damaging wind gusts in its wake on Thursday, with the area that
may see these highest winds being near and south of the Kankakee
River Valley in Illinois and Indiana. This area also may see
morning thunderstorms capable of producing isolated severe gusts,
mainly between 5 and 9 A.M.

Rain may change to snow in portions of north central and far
northern Illinois on Thursday. There is a chance that this snow
falls heavy for a few hour period and results in accumulations
and some minor travel impacts, mainly northwest of a Dixon to
Belvidere line.

Patchy fog may develop after midnight across portions of interior
northern Illinois. If fog develops, a few spots of dense fog with
sharply reduced visibility may linger into early Wednesday morning.

DISCUSSION:

A strong low pressure area will move across the region late
Wednesday night through Thursday. The path of the low pressure
will result in strong to potentially damaging wind gusts in its
wake on Thursday. The threat for southwest to west wind gusts to
60 mph and wind damage is highest near and south of the Kankakee
River Valley in Illinois and Indiana.

There is a chance of thunderstorms late Wednesday night into
Thursday morning, mainly for areas south of Interstate 80. Locally
heavy rainfall will be possible across the area, though the threat
for flash flooding appears minimal. A localized strong to severe
thunderstorm risk may develop Thursday morning near and south of
US-24.
