Scattered snow showers and snow squalls are likely Friday afternoon. The most intense snow squalls could produce: * brief very heavy snowfall that reduces visibilities to less than a half mile. * brief intense snowfall rates, with isolated accumulations of up to an inch or perhaps a bit more in less than 30 minutes. * snow could temporarily accumulate on roadways in the heaviest snow squalls, resulting in briefly hazardous road conditions until the snow melts after the squall ends. * the stronger snow squalls could also produce wind gusts over 40 mph as well as some graupel. Much like severe thunderstorms in the summer time, the more intense snow squalls will be scattered in nature, meaning that most areas will not experience conditions that are as bad as described above. However, where the more intense snow squalls do occur, they will likely be quite impactful to travel. Please allow extra time to reach your destination if traveling Friday afternoon. Now is a good time to review safe winter weather driving best practices, as this first will be the first snowfall of the season for some areas. https://wxn.io/d9z73 |
