…EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING…

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued an Excessive Heat Watch, which is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday evening.

  • TEMPERATURE…Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s and nighttime lows in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees.

  • HEAT INDICES…Peak Heat Indices in the 105 to 115 degree range.

  • IMPACTS…The high temperatures, combined with ample sunshine and oppressive humidity, even at night, will lead to potentially hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. Residents of the City of Chicago can call 3…1…1…to request well being checks for elderly friends or family members, or for information on finding the nearest cooling center.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of high temperatures is expected. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids…stay in an air-conditioned room…stay out of the sun…and check up on relatives and neighbors.

…A FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT Until 630 AM CDT FOR Lake and McHenry Counties…

While the heavy rain has end across the area, one to as much as three inches of rain fell across the area yesterday evening. Runoff from this heavy rain will likely continue to lead to some flooding through the rest of the night.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE… Waukegan, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, North Chicago, Gurnee, Mundelein, Algonquin, McHenry, Vernon Hills, Woodstock, Zion, Grayslake, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, Lake Forest, Round Lake, Antioch and Beach Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN AREAS…HIGHWAYS…STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT TAKES ONLY A FEW INCHES OF SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.
