THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
Limited Thunderstorm Risk.

DISCUSSION:

There is a slight chance of thunderstorm late tonight over northern
Illinois.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Saturday...
Limited Thunderstorm Risk.
Sunday...
Significant Severe Thunderstorm Risk.

DISCUSSION:

Thunderstorms are likely Sunday into Sunday evening. The expected
weather pattern for this time of year suggests a rather
significant severe weather threat could unfold, including the
potential for tornadoes. There remains a great deal of
uncertainty as to how far north the severe threat will be Sunday. While there
is still some risk north of I-80, current indications are the
region most at risk is south of I-80, and especially into
northwest Indiana. The potential severe weather threat is still a
few days out and changes to this outlook may be needed as new
data comes in, so stay tuned for later forecasts and outlooks.

DISCUSSION:

A narrow axis of instability along a cold front extending from
northern Indiana into central Missouri will bring a slight chance
of thunderstorms this evening. Any storms that develop will likely
be south of a line from Rensselaer Indiana to Gibson City
Illinois.

Elevated Fog Risk.

DISCUSSION:

Fog will continue this morning with a gradual easing late this
morning. Patches of dense fog with visibility under one quarter
mile is likely, especially along and between the Interstate 80 and
88 corridors.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

Saturday Night...
Limited Thunderstorm Risk.
Sunday...
Elevated Severe Thunderstorm Risk.

DISCUSSION:

Thunderstorms are likely in the region Sunday and Sunday evening.
The expected weather pattern for this time of year would indicate
an elevated potential for severe thunderstorms during that time.
There remains uncertainty on exact mode of storms, but any storms
will likely be moving in excess of 60 mph and could present a full
range of severe threats.

...A Look Back at the Climate for the Month of October 2017 for
Chicago and Rockford...

At Chicago, the average high temperature was 65.5 degrees, which is
3.2 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 49.7
degrees, which is 6.9 degrees above normal. The average temperature
for the month was 57.6 degrees which is 5.1 degrees above normal.
During the month of October, 8.7 inches of precipitation were
recorded, which is 5.55 inches above normal.

One Top Ten Monthly Record:
**2nd wettest October on record since 1871 with 8.7 inches.

One record was set for Chicago for the month of October 2017
*Record daily precipitation of 4.19 inches on the 14th.

At Rockford, the average high temperature was 64.6 degrees, which is
1.9 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 46.4
degrees, which is 5.7 degrees above normal. The average temperature
for the month was 55.5 degrees, which is 3.8 degrees above normal.
During the month of October, 5.85 inches of precipitation were
recorded, which is 3.18 inches below normal.

One Top Ten Monthly Record:
**7th wettest October on record since 1906 with 5.85 inches.

One record was set for Rockford for the month of October 2017
