DISCUSSION...

A period of soaking rainfall is expected this afternoon into
tonight, especially south of a line from Pontiac, Illinois to
Cedar Lake, Indiana. Water may pond in areas of poor drainage
where rain falls hardest overnight.

Level 3 of 5 Damaging Wind Risk...up to 75 mph.
Level 3 of 5 Large Hail Risk...up to 1 inch in diameter.
Limited Flooding Risk.
Elevated Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.

DISCUSSION...

Showers and storms will continue through early this evening. Some of
these storms will capable of becoming severe, particularly in
areas along and south of a line from near Streator Illinois to
Gary Indiana. Any storms that become severe will be capable of all
severe hazards, including damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.

Repeated rounds of storms over the same areas may also lead
to localized flooding of poor drainage and low lying areas,
particularly along and east of I-55.

* HAZARDS...
Numerous tornadoes, several intense and long track
Widespread damaging winds, some hurricane force
Scattered large hail, some baseball size

* SUMMARY...
A tornado outbreak is expected this afternoon into early tonight
from parts of the lower Mississippi Valley into the Mid-South
and lower Ohio Valley. Numerous tornadoes, along with multiple
EF3+ tornadoes, appear likely. In addition, tornadoes,
significant severe wind gusts, and large hail to very large hail
will be possible across a broad area from north Texas
northeastward to the southern Great Lakes.

Preparedness actions...

Review your severe weather safety procedures for the possibility
of dangerous weather today. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio,
weather.gov, or other media for watches and warnings. A tornado
watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form
during the next several hours. If a tornado warning is issued for
